5 Books That Changed My Life!
As a kid, I wasn't much of a reader, but I have always been a fan of personal development and improving aspects of my life by standing on the shoulders of giants who have already walked the path. These books are my absolute favorites of all time. Not only have I read these books, but I RE-READ them every year because they have so much great stuff in them, that it's hard not to find something new every time. I also recommend these to pretty much everyone I talk to.
"Real networking was about finding ways to make other people successful."
I originally picked up this book while I was stuck in an airport, and between waiting and flying, I read it cover to cover in a few hours, and have since downloaded the audiobook so I can listen to it once a year. When people ask, "How can I get better at sales?" this is the book I send them. Not because it made me a better salesperson, but because it made me more successful in my career by helping me understand that long term success in sales was about caring about others. This book covers how to do it, and I absolutely LOVE this book. The principles can be applied to business and personal or family relationships. Definitely recommend.
"The rare individual who unselfishly tries to serve others has a huge advantage."
This book should 100% be part of the curriculum in every high school and college EVERYWHERE. If you want the people in your life, both personally and professionally, to feel truly important and valued, the strategies in this book are amazing, and actionable.
"Don't concern yourself with the money. Be of service... build... work... dream... create! Do this and you'll find there is no limit to the abundance that will come to you."
I have seen so many businesses, non profits, families, and other organizations struggle. One of the main reasons can be summed up in what Zig Ziglar calls the radio station WIIFM...Whats in it for me? The Strangest Secret is about putting value into the world and having it return to you tenfold. It's about the power of reciprocity. The universe works if you are doing the right thing for the right reasons. This is a short read, and I LOVE the audio version. It has that antique radio quality. You can hear an amazing interview with the authors wife here.
"Wherever you fly, you'll be the best of the best. Wherever you go, you will top all the rest. Except when you don't, because sometimes you wont."
Really, Mark? Dr. Seuss? Yes. A RESOUNDING YES. There comes a time in everyones life when they feel like they are doing the right things, but the results just arent coming fast enough. You see others winning, and wonder, "Why not me?" While this is an inspiring story about achievement and possibility, its also filled with truths about reality, and how you WILL hit bumps in the road, and you CAN persevere and succeed. While the book is fantastic, my absolute favorite reading of this book was performed by John Lithgow. It's on Audible, but I also love the video read alongs. Look them up on Youtube.
"This is not a book!"
Probably a weird one to add to the list, I know. It's not a book. Its a journal. Why was this life changing? For two reasons. First, it was the first thing I EVER published. I thought people would think it was ridiculous, and was humbled by the number of people who ordered one. Friends, family and even people I dont know. It was so cool to see a project completed and shipped in physical form. EPIC. Second, and more importantly, this journal is about taking the bullshit that happens ever day, and learning to find the silver lining and the blessing or the lesson. It's something that I am always trying to get better at, and has been a truly life changing approach to mindset.
No time to read, all of these, with the exception of Blessings in the Bullshit, are available on Audible.
